Toi Tu is a celebration of creativity, culture, and connection. Held in the unique setting of Haratu Marae in Kororāreka, this exhibition brings together works by Māori and non-Māori artists, each exploring themes of identity, land, memory, and belonging. While diverse in style and story, the artworks are carefully curated to create a cohesive and uplifting journey—reflecting the spirit of calm, inclusivity, and shared community that this space embodies. Toi Tū can be interpreted as “art that endures” or “the standing presence of art.” In te reo Māori, toi refers to art, knowledge, or origin, while tū means to stand, remain, or endure. Together, Toi Tū speaks to the enduring nature of creativity, culture, and identity. The gallery Toi Tū, situated in Haratu Marae, Kororareka, honours both the resilience of artistic expression and the grounding presence of this space as a place to reflect, connect, and celebrate the stories of this land and its people—both past and present.
